NORTH & SOUTH CORRIDOR RECONFIGURATION
The Morrissey Boulevard Corridor Study is a collaborative planning effort that focuses on improving the public realm, mobility, connectivity, safety and climate resilience of Morrissey Boulevard and adjacent roadways in Boston's Dorchester neighborhood. The study explores roadway reconfiguration design alternatives for problematic intersections and throughways to the north and south of the corridor, illustrating ideas on ways to optimize vehicular routes, public transportation, and pedestrian infrastructure.
CENTRAL CORRIDOR RESILIENCE
At the center of the Morrissey Boulevard Corridor study area sits Dorchester Bay, a collection of shorelines and open space frequented by the local community. The Bay's low elevation and underlying bathymetry make it and surrounding neighborhoods susceptible to flooding during storms and high water events -- a trend that is only anticipated to get worse within the coming decades. Here, roadway reconfiguration combines with coastal resilience to reimagine the Bay with floodwall infrastructure, protected bike lanes, shoreside recreation and programs, and ecological improvements.
