EAST NEWARK
RIVERFRONT PARK
EAST NEWARK, NJ

The concept for East Newark Riverfront Park is to create a public destination for the East Newark community grounded in three fundamental objectives: social, architectural, and environmental performance. Together these ideas inspire a series of public spaces bound within an engaging waterfront setting. Through topographical manipulation and new social programming, a series of flexible outdoor spaces are formed. Each individualized and dependent zone operates in a variety of performative ways creating rich user experiences such as a shady walk through dense woodland gardens or high perspective from the lookout mound.

The site represents almost 50% of East Newark’s waterfront and is the only site in the borough positioned to provide waterfront commercial, community and open space development in the short-term. The project site is bounded by the Passaic River to the west, Central Avenue to the south, the Clark Thread Company along Passaic Avenue to the east, and an unused rail corridor to the north.
